What to do when its rainy in Denver

Usually Denver offers excellent sunny weather & I have no complaints... This weekend was not that. This weekend was cold, windy, rain/snow mix and gross.  Since Denver normally has such amazing weather, we usually spend our weekends outside; either at the park down the street, walking around and exploring the bars/restaurants in our neighborhood or being 'one with nature' in true Colorado fashion.

Friday we didn't even venture back out after getting home from work.  We turned on the fireplace - nestled under some blankets & finished the last few episodes of Season 2 of Better Call Saul.   Have you watched this show?  Both Nick and I were HUGE Breaking Bad fans.  We binge watched the first 4-5 seasons during a cold and snowy winter a few years back in MN.  Binged to the point where we were both dreaming we were drug lords.  We were obsessed with the show.

When Better Call Saul first came on the air, we tried to watch it.  Really, really tried, but I think it was just too soon after Breaking Bad (for us at least) to get into it.  Fast forward a couple of years and we started DVRing it again, turns out the show is awesome and we were hooked!  If you haven't check it out you really should!

Saturday was another dreary rainy day.  We woke up Saturday morning and watched Bering Sea Gold.  This is our new Saturday routine, Nick DVR's the episodes during the week and then we watch a couple on Saturday mornings.  Remember how when you were a kid you would wake up on Saturday mornings and watch cartoons?  Well...I guess this is the grown up version of that!

After we'd finished our shows and done some weekend cleanup around the house, we decided to venture out and do a bit of exploring.  We went to The Farmhouse at Breckenridge Brewery.  If you are in Denver, or visiting Denver, I would recommend.  The complex it self is HUGE.  They have a few different brewing operations, a restaurant, tasting room as well as a huge patio/backyard space that I'm sure is a blast in the summer!

It was pretty busy when we got there so we had about 15 minutes to kill while we waited for our table.  We sampled a few beers, looked over some items in the gift shop & before we knew it, our table was ready.  The dining area itself looks like an old farm house.  There is a huge fireplace, a bunch of old chandeliers, mis-matched dining chairs at the tables and an absolutely gorgeous interior.  On weekends they have a brunch buffet, or you can order off the menu.  We both ordered some lunch off the menu and a flight.  Everything was excellent!!

On our way home we made a last minute decision to stop at Big Lots.  I'm not normally Big Lots shopper, but we were looking for plastic bins to re-organize our storage unit with.  One of the downfalls of condo living, is NO space... And on of the downfalls of our condo, is lingering water issues.  First it was our dining room, then living room and then storage unit... so we decided plastic bins were necessary.  It happens that it was our lucky day.  They had these blue bins on sale for $4.95 each.  PERFECT.  We loaded up our cart and dropped $100 on bins and headed home!

Saturday night we watched the movie The Revenant.  Have you seen it?  I'm not a huge Leonardo DiCaprio fan, but DAMN he was amazing in that movie.  The beginning was a bit bloody/violent for me, but I enjoyed the movie.  I loved how they tied all the Native American history into it and really 'explained' a lot, with very little dialogue.

Sunday we were up bright and early organizing our storage unit with the new bins.  One of the problems we have is that some of our boxes hadn't been unpacked since 2010.  We've moved a few times in the past few years (including twice in 6 months back in 2014/2015) so we seemingly always have boxes full of stuff - and we're never quite sure what is where.  We were able to go through every box/bin in the storage unit, get rid of the crap we don't need, make a considerably large pile for donation & then repack/relabel everything, so we know exactly what is where!  It was quite the undertaking, but so very worth it!
Before
After

Sunday afternoon we ventured out to a local pizza joint Tony P's to grab some slices & beers.  They have all day happy hour on Sunday - so we figured we'd take advantage.

All in all - we were pretty productive, considering the terrible weather this weekend.  What did you do with your weekend?

Our Weekend - Chicago Trip!

Mingle 240
Oh Chicago, we love you.
This weekend Nick and I took a quick getaway to Chicago!  We hadn't been there in about a year and decided a weekend away was in order.

Our flight was delayed on Friday due to this latest storm...
While we were waiting (and watching the snowplows hard at work) we enjoyed some beverages and food in the airport bar..

Saturday, we started off the day by going to one of my FAVORITE breakfast places.  I love love love breakfast.  It's seriously my favorite meal of the day.  We stumbled across this restaurant in Las Vegas last year and when I saw they had a Chicago location, we had to go!

Nick got a bloody mary and I got a spiked hot chocolate!!  Then we got to the main event!  I had a smoked salmon scrambler and Nick had eggs, bacon and a Snickers pancake!  It looked delicious!!

After breakfast we just spent time walking around and dropping into the shops on Michigan Ave.

We happened to stumble across Subway's new adventure?

Astrology Readings???

We also stopped into another bar for some beverages...

Note the Gap bag in the background...

Saturday night we met up with some friends for dinner and then spent the night out in the Wicker Park neighborhood.  It was a great time!

Sunday we got up and took the L back to the airport for our flight back to MN.

It was a quick getaway - but very needed!!

I hope you all had fabulous weekends!!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Today I'm linking up with Jamie to share what I'm loving this week.

These breakfast wraps.

I'm obsessed.
I find that I frequently go through 'food obsessions'.  I'll find something new that I like and eat it over and over and over again.  I'm not sure why I do this?  Anyways - I've had these every day this week for breakfast and even had one for dinner last night..They are so simple and yummy.  Just take a tortilla, throw on some peanut butter and then add granola & whatever fruits you like!  I've tried apple & banana and both are great!  It's also a great snack as well!

This movie date I have planned for this weekend with Nick

Ok.  So just to be clear, we aren't renting this movie.  Top Gun in 3D is playing at one of the IMAX theaters here.  Nick LOVES Top Gun - LOVES it.  When we were on vacation in San Diego a few years ago we had to go to Kansas City BBQ (aka the Top Gun Bar) and hang out for a night!
When he saw that it was playing at the IMAX, he immediately asked me if we could make a 'date' out of it!  :-)  Seriously, he is more excited than a kid on Christmas!

That we booked our hotel for our trip to Chicago next weekend.

We love Chicago.  When we lived in Milwaukee, it was just a quick 75 mile trip south - we would frequently go just for the day, usually taking the commuter train.  Now that we are in MN, the trips require a bit more planning!  We try to go a few times a year.  Nick & I both have friends that live there, so usually we end up meeting up for dinner/drinks with them.
On our agenda for this trip is the Sears (Willis) Tower and a night out with our friends in Wrigleyville.  I'm sure we'll do some shopping along Michigan Ave as well!

The fact that we have another lazy weekend on the calendar.

We spent so much of 2012 being so ridiculously busy.  Between both of us finishing up our MBA's and taking frequent trips back to Wisconsin to finish wedding planning - we just got a bit burned out on being away.  This weekend we really have nothing on the calendar (aside from our 'Top Gun' date) and I'm LOVING that!!

ok - I'm not sure why I found this polar bear being lazy so funny... but I did.  Plus - the snow seems fitting for MN!

What are you loving today??

Weekend Recap

This weekend Nick & I headed back to Wisconsin!  It was so so good to go home!!

We got into town pretty late on Friday night, so we didn't really do much...

Saturday

I went bridesmaid dress shopping for my sisters wedding...it was a bit of a disaster at the bridal shop...
To start with - they wouldn't let us make an 'appointment' for bridesmaids dress shopping, they said they only reserved 'appointments' for brides.  Fine we said, we knew what we were looking for and they said they would reserve a few fitting rooms for us.  My sister had picked out her color and designer and had called ahead and they said they carried 'a bunch' of dresses by that designer.

Turns out 'a bunch' was 6.  Fail!

We tried on what we could, and when the shop realized it clearly wasn't going well - they became quite snarky.  It was awful.  They told us they could take our measurements, so we agreed - but then they refused to show them to us.  (I'm sure they didn't want us to go order the dresses elsewhere...but they really shouldn't have offered to take them in the first place, they clearly knew we weren't ordering from them)
After we left the shop, we ended up going back to my parents house for lunch and then just shopped online and ordered our dresses.  It turned out to be fine - but the shop was extremely un-helpful!

These are the dresses (and the color) we picked
(the long dresses are being hemmed to the length of the short one)

After the dresses were ordered and the 'non-family' bridesmaids left, we went over to visit my Grandma.  My Gramps passed away in December, so it's still a bit of an adjustment period for all of us.  When we got there, my Grandma gave us all hats she had knit!
So of course we needed to model!

We spend Saturday evening just hanging out at my parents.  Nick cooked us up a delicious meal on the grill and we just watched a movie!  It was so nice and relaxing!

even the dogs were relaxed!

Sunday

We got up early and headed back to MN....as you heard in my previous post, the roads were awful!!

We spent 200+ miles driving though this..

Yuck!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!!

Weekend Recap

Wow, another week gone by and again I've been terribly delinquent with my blog posts...

Today I'm linking up for a weekend update!  Here's a quick recap of our weekend...

Thursday...

I went to dinner with my sweet friend Emily.  We used to work together and have really kept in touch after I changed jobs.  We met in St. Paul at Bangkok Cuisine Thai restaurant.  The food was so yummy and it was so great to see her smiling face!  She told me all about her recent trip to Istanbul & I caught her up on the wedding & honeymoon details!

Friday - Ladies Night...

I met up with some new work friends of mine for a night out in Minneapolis' North Loop.  We started with dinner at Black Sheep Pizza.  Of course we had to start with a pitcher of wine!  :-)  After we'd had our fair share of food and drink - we continued our night with stops at a few local establishments (and a lot more alcohol!)  Needless to say Saturday morning was not a great time to be me!  :-)
Here are a few photos from the night....don't judge us... It was ladies night!

Saturday...

We did some more house hunting.  We saw a few townhouses in a different area of the city than we had previously looked.  We liked them - but not really enough to consider an offer.
After house hunting we spent the rest of the day relaxing.  It's been SO COLD here, that we really didn't want to leave the house.

Superbowl Sunday...

Nick and I went to brunch at the Chatterbox.  It isn't too far from where we live and they offer a pretty good brunch selection.  After brunch we went and saw the movie Zero Dark Thirty.  It chronicles the efforts over 10 years that led to the raid that ultimately killed bin Laden.  I thought the movie was pretty good.  I honestly left wishing I could work for the CIA!!  I think it would be fascinating to work on projects that are so important and have access to all that top secret information!  I had read the book 'No Easy Day' - which sort of tells the same story.  It was interesting to see how the story lines overlapped!
We spent Sunday afternoon finishing up our Thank You notes from our wedding.  We were married 5 weeks ago and have been seriously slacking on getting them done.  We were so blessed to have had so many wonderful gifts that I really wanted to get everything written and in the mail.  Mission (finally) accomplished!!
We really didn't do anything for the Superbowl.  Our beloved Green Bay Packers weren't playing - so we really didn't have much motivation to watch.  I do have to say that I thought Beyonce ROCKED that halftime show!  Dang!  I wish I could look like that!!

Well that's all for now - my goal for this week is be a much more avid blogger!!
